Ethical Clearance

Research published in EBGC that involves human participants, such as surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, or experiments, must follow accepted standards of research ethics.

Research Involving Human Participants

Authors must confirm that:

  • participants took part voluntarily after giving informed consent;
  • the research was approved by an ethics committee or institutional review board where this is required by the authors’ institution or by national regulations; and
  • for participants who are minors or cannot give legal consent, consent was obtained from a parent, guardian, or other authorized person.

Privacy and Confidentiality

The privacy of participants, respondents, and organizations must be protected. Names or other identifying details are included only when necessary and with written permission. Data from companies or government institutions that are not public must be used with permission.

Ethics Statement

Manuscripts that involve human participants must include an ethics statement covering: the name of the ethics committee and the approval number and date (if applicable), and confirmation that informed consent was obtained. Manuscripts without adequate ethical approval may be rejected.

Related Policies

Authors must also follow the journal’s Publication Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies, which are based on Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance.
